Where to Eat After 2am in NYC

After 2am, the list gets short on purpose.

A lot of “late night restaurants NYC” guides will send you somewhere that closed the kitchen at midnight and left the lights on. Fine for another round. Useless if you are hungry. This page is only places that are still cooking after two — late night kitchens, 24-hour counters, and the handful of dining rooms that kept the real hours.

We are on that list because we built it that way. FKA: Formerly Known As, 221 2nd Avenue, kitchen until 4am, every night of the week. Not a weekend stunt.

The 2am test

New York lost a lot of overnight kitchens after 2020 and did not get all of them back. Veselka only restored weekend 24-hour service in April 2026. L’Express used to be 24 hours and is not. Time Out dropped Coppelia from its 24-hour list, then Coppelia’s own hours still read 24/7. That is the state of the genre: messy, local, worth verifying.

The test we used:

• Kitchen still taking food tickets after 2:00am
• You can eat on a plate, not only in an Uber
• We would send a friend, not just a stranger with no other options

Slice shops and halal carts will save you. They are not this list.

After 2am, start at FKA: Formerly Known As: kitchen until 4am every night. Lil Frankie’s is weekends only at that hour. Empanada Mama, Coppelia, Kellogg’s, and Koreatown cover 24 hours, with the usual chalkboard caveats.

1. FKA: Formerly Known As (East Village)

Until: 4am, nightly

This is the rare one: a downtown bar whose kitchen does not flinch at 2:01am on a Tuesday.

We serve the same menu we serve at 8pm. $1 Montauk Pearls. Royale With Cheese. Frito-Pie. Dumplings. Hot dog. Caviar with Pringles if that is the kind of 3am you are having. $8 beer-and-shot combos. Pinball. Big Buck Hunter. You do not have to migrate to a diner to finish the night.

Most “restaurants open until 4am NYC” are weekend-only, outer-borough, or 24-hour counters. We are a sit-down kitchen on 2nd Avenue between 13th and 14th, seven days.

2. Lil Frankie’s (East Village)

Until: 2am Sun–Thu; 4am Fri–Sat

Lil Frankie’s is the other East Village dining room that still behaves like the neighborhood stays up. Cash only, wood oven, pasta. The important line is the weekday one: if it is 2:15am on a Wednesday, they are not on this list tonight. Friday and Saturday they are exactly the place you walk to from a bar on Avenue A.

3. Empanada Mama

Until: 24/7

Empanada Mama is the closest thing New York has to a citywide after-2am chain that is still good. Hell’s Kitchen never sleeps. The East Village shop at 239 1st Avenue is listed 24/7. LES on Allen Street too. You will not get a cocktail program. You will get food that is still being made.

• Must-Order: Corn empanadas. Get two.

4. Coppelia (Chelsea)

Until: 24/7 (their site still says so)

Coppelia on West 14th is the Cuban diner people name on Reddit when they get off work at 2am. Ropa vieja, pressed sandwiches, a room that does not feel like a punishment. Time Out removed it from a 24-hour roundup in 2025; Coppelia’s own hours still read around the clock. That is your reminder to look at the door. If they are open, go.

5. Yunnan Rice Noodle House (Chinatown)

Until: 5am daily (their listing)

Yunnan Rice Noodle House on Bayard Street is the Chinatown bowl you can still get when Division Street has gone dark. Mixian, chili, a room that is used to 3am. Their own site lists 10am to 5am every day. Dim Sum Palace shows up on late-night maps at 3am and on its own Chinatown page at 11pm, which is why it is not the Chinatown pick here.

6. Veselka (East Village)

Until: 24 hours Friday and Saturday (as of April 2026)

Veselka was 24/7 for decades, then it was not, and in April 2026 it brought overnight service back on weekends at 144 2nd Avenue. Fried pierogi, borscht, potato pancakes — owner Jason Birchard told EV Grieve those are the late-night orders. Weekdays they close earlier (Resy has had them at midnight Monday–Tuesday, 1am Wednesday; treat that as a check, not gospel). Weekend 3am pierogi is the old New York move, restored with an asterisk.

7. The Commodore (Williamsburg)

Until: 4am (Eater’s reported kitchen hours)

Brooklyn after 2am is thinner than people who do not live there think. The Commodore is the bar-kitchen that shows up on the serious maps for a reason: fried chicken sandwiches, frozen drinks, food until 4am. If you are already on the L, stay on the L.

8. Koreatown (32nd Street)

Until: Often 24 hours; confirm the specific door

Koreatown is still the most reliable after-2am strip in Manhattan. Miss Korea BBQ markets 24/7 service. Gammeeok on West 32nd is a 24-hour soup-and-pancake room. Pocha 32 and a dozen karaoke-adjacent kitchens run past 2 on weekends. Listings for individual rooms contradict each other constantly. Walk 32nd between Fifth and Broadway and read the hours on the glass.

• Must-Order: Hangover soup, grilled meat, or whatever is actually still coming off the grill.

9. Kellogg’s Diner (Williamsburg)

Until: 24/7

Kellogg’s is back as a 24-hour diner, which puts it on this list by default. Texas-Mex plates, diner coffee, a dessert case. After 2am in Brooklyn, “default” is a compliment.

Also open, with caveats

Katz’s Delicatessen (205 E Houston): 24 hours Friday into Sunday. After midnight the line is a different animal than at noon. Pastrami.

L’Express (249 Park Avenue South): Used to be 24 hours. Their own late-night page now says food until midnight Sunday–Tuesday, 1am Wednesday–Thursday, 3am Friday–Saturday. Weekend after-2am only, and not 4am unless they change it again.

Lahori Chilli (various, originally Midtown): Eater has had them until 4am for cab-driver hours — haleem, samosas, steam table. A kitchen, not a scene.
